How to make it

  1. Step 1: Draw the crown
    1

    Draw the crown

Draw a row of 8 tall triangles joined side by side, each 1 1/2 in wide at the base. That's the pointy bottom.

  2. Step 2: Draw the top
    2

    Draw the top

Above the row, draw 8 short trapezoids, one on top of each triangle. Add a small glue tab at one end.

  3. Step 3: Cut it out
    3

    Cut it out

Cut around the outside edge only.

  4. Step 4: Score the folds
    4

    Score the folds

Run a dry pen along every inside line with a ruler. The paper will fold crisp.

  5. Step 5: Fold every line
    5

    Fold every line

Fold each line back and forth once so it bends easily.

  6. Step 6: Glue it closed
    6

    Glue it closed

Glue the tab to make a ring. Then bring the triangle points together and tape them inside.

  7. Step 7: Close the top
    7

    Close the top

Cut an octagon that fits the top and glue it on.

Edie's tip

Make your first one from plain paper. Then you'll know how big to cut the top for the shiny one.
