DIY Project
Privacy
You're reading guides about leaky faucets, not handing over your life story. We'd like to keep it that way. Here's what this site does and doesn't collect.
No accounts
DIY Project has no accounts, no logins, and no passwords. You don't need to sign up to read anything here.
That also means we don't have a profile on you, and there's nothing to delete because nothing was created.
Your Saved items stay in your browser
When you save a guide or project, it's stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. It never gets sent to us.
If you clear your browser data or switch to a different device, your Saved list won't come with you. We can't recover it, because we never had it.
Newsletter
We don't have a newsletter yet. When we launch one, signing up will be optional and you'll be able to leave any time.
We'll update this page before the newsletter launches, so you can see exactly what we'll collect and why before you sign up.
Hosting logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These usually include things like your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, and the time.
Logs like these help keep the site running and protect it from abuse. We don't use them to build a profile of you or sell them to anyone.
Counting visits
We count visits so we know which guides people read and which ones need work. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, and Google Analytics, which does.
These tools see things like the page you opened, the site you came from, your browser and device type, and your rough location such as city or country. They don't tell us your name.
You can block Google Analytics with your browser's privacy settings or Google's own opt-out add-on. The site works the same either way.
Retailer links and cookies
Some links on DIY Project go to retailers like Home Depot and Amazon. When you click through, the retailer may set its own cookies in your browser. That's how they know the visit came from us.
Once you're on a retailer's site, their privacy policy applies. You can always search for a product yourself instead of using our link.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website leaves in your browser. Ours come from Google Analytics. Retailers set their own after you click through to them.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Nothing on DIY Project stops working if you do.
Children
Plenty of our projects are for kids, but the site is written for the grown-ups helping them. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you think a child has sent us personal information, tell us through the contact page and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, including California, the UK and the EU, you may have the right to ask what personal data a site holds about you, and to have it corrected or deleted.
We hold very little. If you want to ask, use the contact page and we'll answer within 30 days.
What we don't do
We don't sell your information. We don't ask for your name, address, or payment details. We don't run accounts that could leak.
Questions or changes
If you have a privacy question, reach us through our contact page.
When this page changes, we'll update the date at the top so you can see when it was last revised.
