How to make it

  1. Step 1: Tie the top
    1

    Tie the top

Line up the 4 strands and tie a knot 3 in from the end. Tape the knot to a table.

  2. Step 2: Spread the strings
    2

    Spread the strings

Spread them out in order: color A, B, C, D.

  3. Step 3: Make a forward knot
    3

    Make a forward knot

Cross string A over B like a number 4. Loop it under and up through the hole. Pull up to the top.

  4. Step 4: Knot it twice
    4

    Knot it twice

Do that same knot again on string B. Every knot is always done twice.

  5. Step 5: Move across
    5

    Move across

Keep knotting A across C and D the same way. A is now on the right side.

  6. Step 6: Repeat with the next color
    6

    Repeat with the next color

Now B is on the left. Knot it across all the way. Keep going and stripes appear.

  7. Step 7: Tie it off
    7

    Tie it off

Stop when it wraps around a wrist. Tie a knot and leave 3 in of tail to tie it on.

Edie's tip

Hold the string you're knotting over tight. The one you're wrapping should stay loose.
