How to make it

Safety

Fly in an open field far from power lines and roads, and keep the plastic bag away from small kids.

  1. Step 1: Cut the sail

Cut the trash bag open into a flat sheet. Draw a shape like a wide house upside down, 16 in tall and 20 in across at the widest.

  2. Step 2: Cut it out

Cut along the lines. Keep the sides even so it flies straight.

  3. Step 3: Tape on the spars

    Tape on the spars

Tape a straw or dowel down each side, from the top corner to the bottom corner of the wide part.

  4. Step 4: Reinforce the corners

    Tie the bridle

Tie a 3 ft string between the 2 side holes. Loop a paper clip at its middle and tie the kite string to the clip.

    Add a tail

Tape a streamer to the bottom edge. It keeps the kite steady.

  7. Step 7: Fly it

    Fly it

Stand with your back to the wind. Let the wind lift it, and let out string slowly.

Edie's tip

Fly in steady wind, about the kind that moves leaves and small branches. Too gusty and it dives.
