How to make it

Safety

Use toys too big to fit through a toilet paper tube.

  1. Step 1: Line the cups

    Line the cups

    Put a circle of colored paper in the bottom of 4 cups.

  2. Step 2: Gather the toys

    Gather the toys

    Hunt around the house for big toys in the same colors.

  3. Step 3: Show 1

    Pick up a red toy, say red, and drop it near the red cup.

  4. Step 4: Let them sort

    Let them sort

    Hand over the rest. Help when they ask.

  5. Step 5: Check together

    Check together

    Point to each cup and name the color.

Edie's tip

Toddlers often put everything in 1 cup at first. That's still sorting practice.
