How to make it

Safety

Spray the sealer outdoors or with a window open.

  1. Step 1: Wipe the pots
    1

    Wipe the pots

Wipe off dust with a damp cloth and let them dry for 1 hour.

  2. Step 2: Seal the inside
    2

    Seal the inside

Spray the inside of each pot with sealer outdoors. Clay soaks up water and pushes paint off from behind, so this matters.

  3. Step 3: Tape your pattern
    3

    Tape your pattern

Tape off a stripe, a dipped bottom or a diagonal. Press the tape edges down firmly.

  4. Step 4: Paint 2 coats

    Paint 2 coats

Paint the open areas and let them dry 30 minutes between coats.

  5. Step 5: Add details
    5

    Add details

Peel the tape and add dots or lines with the detail brush.

  6. Step 6: Seal the outside
    6

    Seal the outside

Spray 2 light coats of sealer on the outside. Let it dry overnight.

  7. Step 7: Plant them
    7

    Plant them

Add potting mix and a plant. Tie a tag on for a teacher and you're done.

Edie's tip

Paint the rim and the top 1 in inside the pot too. It makes it look finished when the plant is in.
