How to make it

  1. Step 1: Pick the flowers
    1

    Pick the flowers

Cut flowers on a dry morning. Flat, thin blooms press best.

  2. Step 2: Press them
    2

    Press them

Lay them between parchment sheets inside a heavy book. Stack more books on top and wait 2 weeks.

  3. Step 3: Clean the glass
    3

    Clean the glass

Wipe both panes until there are no smudges. Fingerprints show up badly once it's framed.

  4. Step 4: Arrange the design
    4

    Arrange the design

Lay the flowers on one pane with tweezers. Try a loose bouquet or a single stem.

  5. Step 5: Tack them down
    5

    Tack them down

Put a pinpoint of glue under each stem with a toothpick. Petals stay free.

  6. Step 6: Close the frame
    6

    Close the frame

Lay the second pane on top and close the clips. Prop it up and see the light come through.

Edie's tip

Hang it out of direct sun. Pressed flowers fade within months in a sunny window.
