How to make it

Safety

Supervise yarn play and put it away after, since long strings can wrap around necks.

  1. Step 1: Draw a mitten

    Draw a mitten

Trace your child's hand in a mitten shape on the plain side of the cardboard.

  2. Step 2: Color it in

Let them decorate it with stripes, dots or snowflakes.

  3. Step 3: Cut and punch
    3

    Cut and punch

Grown-up cuts it out and punches holes about 1 in apart around the edge.

  4. Step 4: Make a lace tip

    Make a lace tip

Wrap tape tight around 1 end of the yarn. Tie the other end through the first hole.

  5. Step 5: Lace it up

    Lace it up

Have your child push the yarn in and out of the holes all the way around.

Edie's tip

Show them "in the front, out the back" first. Going around the edge each time is fine for beginners too.
