How to make it

Safety

Googly eyes and small felt pieces are choking hazards for children under 3.

  1. Step 1: Slide in the cardboard
    1

    Slide in the cardboard

Put a piece of cardboard inside the sock so glue doesn't soak through.

  2. Step 2: Find the mouth
    2

    Find the mouth

Put your hand in. The space between fingers and thumb is the mouth. Mark the eye spots.

  3. Step 3: Glue on the eyes
    3

    Glue on the eyes

Glue the googly eyes above the mouth.

  4. Step 4: Add the hair
    4

    Add the hair

Cut yarn pieces and glue them in a bunch on top.

  5. Step 5: Add the details
    5

    Add the details

Cut felt ears, a tongue or a mustache and glue them on. Let it dry 30 minutes.

  6. Step 6: Put on a show
    6

    Put on a show

Drape a sheet over a table for a stage. You can play a puppet too.

Edie's tip

Let the puppets interview each other. Grandkids will often ask your puppet things they'd never ask you directly.
