How to make it

Safety

Small figures and pebbles are choking hazards for children under 3.

  1. Step 1: Set up on a tray
    1

    Set up on a tray

Put the bowl on a tray on the table so spilled soil tips right back in.

Spoon in potting mix until it's an inch below the rim.

  3. Step 3: Plan the layout
    3

Set the plants, still in pots, where you want them. Leave room for a path.

  4. Step 4: Plant them
    4

    Plant them

Dig a hole for each plant, set it in and press soil around it.

  5. Step 5: Make a path
    5

    Make a path

Lay a winding line of pebbles from the edge to the house.

  6. Step 6: Add moss and the house
    6

    Add moss and the house

Tuck moss in the bare spots. Add the house and figures.

  7. Step 7: Water gently
    7

    Water gently

Sprinkle water around the plants. Keep it in bright, indirect light.

Edie's tip

Everything happens at table height, so nobody needs to kneel or bend. Let the grandkids name the fairy who lives there.
