How to make it

  1. Step 1: Draw the outline
    1

    Draw the outline

Sketch a big, simple picture on the board with the marker, like a sun over a field or a tree. Split it into sections.

  2. Step 2: Tear the paper
    2

    Tear the paper

Everyone tears magazine pages into pieces about the size of a quarter. No scissors needed.

  3. Step 3: Sort by color
    3

Drop the pieces into bowls by color. Blues for sky, greens for grass.

  4. Step 4: Hand out sections

    Hand out sections

Give each person a section to fill, or pass the board around the table.

  5. Step 5: Glue and press
    5

    Glue and press

Rub glue on a small area. Press the pieces down, overlapping a little.

  6. Step 6: Show it off
    6

    Show it off

Hang it in a hallway or dining room with everyone's names along the bottom.

Edie's tip

Tearing is gentler than cutting for hands with arthritis, and the rough edges make the mosaic look better.
