How to make it

Safety

Cut away from your hand with the craft knife, and tweens under 12 should have a grown-up make the cut.

  1. Step 1: Black out the inside
    1

    Black out the inside

Line the inside of the box with black paper. Light bouncing around blurs the picture.

  2. Step 2: Trace the lens
    2

    Trace the lens

Trace the lens onto 1 short end of the box.

  3. Step 3: Cut the hole
    3

    Cut the hole

Cut it out with the craft knife, a little smaller than the trace.

  4. Step 4: Mount the lens
    4

    Mount the lens

Tape the magnifier over the hole from inside so no light leaks.

  5. Step 5: Flip the screen
    5

    Flip the screen

Lock screen rotation and turn the phone upside down. The lens flips the image back.

  6. Step 6: Focus it
    6

    Focus it

Turn the brightness all the way up. Slide the phone forward and back inside until the wall image is sharp.

Edie's tip

Use it in a fully dark room on a white wall. It's dim, so the darker the better.
