How to make it

Safety

Hot wax burns badly, so never melt it straight on a burner, keep a lid nearby for flare-ups, and never leave a lit candle alone.

  1. Step 1: Set the wicks
    1

    Set the wicks

Stick each wick to the center of a tin. Hold it upright with a clothespin across the top.

  2. Step 2: Melt the wax

    Melt the wax

Grown-up step: set the pitcher in a pan of simmering water. Melt the wax to 185°F.

  3. Step 3: Add the scent
    3

    Add the scent

Take it off the heat. Stir in fragrance for 2 full minutes.

  4. Step 4: Cool a little

    Cool a little

Wait until it reads 135°F. Pouring cooler makes smoother tops.

  5. Step 5: Pour the tins
    5

    Pour the tins

Fill each tin to 1/2 in from the top. Don't move them for 4 hours.

  6. Step 6: Cure and trim
    6

    Cure and trim

Let them sit 1 week for the best smell. Trim the wicks to 1/4 in.

Edie's tip

Use the fragrance amount on the wax bag. More oil doesn't make it smell stronger and can make it unsafe.
