How to make it

  1. Step 1: Make a petal template
    1

    Make a petal template

Draw a petal about 2 x 3 1/2 in on cardstock, rounded at the top and narrow at the base. Cut it out.

  2. Step 2: Cut with the grain
    2

    Cut with the grain

Trace and cut 6 petals per flower. Keep the paper's stretch lines running up and down the petal.

  3. Step 3: Cup each petal
    3

    Cup each petal

Hold the middle of a petal with both thumbs and gently stretch it sideways. It turns into a real cupped shape.

  4. Step 4: Make the center
    4

    Make the center

Glue a foam ball onto the tip of a wire. Wrap it in a small square of crepe paper.

  5. Step 5: Add the petals

    Add the petals

Glue 3 petals around the center, overlapping. Add the next 3 in the gaps.

  6. Step 6: Wrap the stem
    6

    Wrap the stem

Stretch floral tape as you wind it down the wire from the petal base. Add a green leaf partway down.

  7. Step 7: Arrange the bouquet
    7

    Arrange the bouquet

Gather the stems in a jar or wrap them in brown paper. They'll stay this pretty for years.

Edie's tip

Brush the petal edges lightly with a dry makeup brush dipped in chalk pastel. It adds a natural blush.
