How to make it

Safety

Melted soap base is hot enough to burn and clings to skin, so pour slowly and keep kids and pets out of the kitchen.

  1. Step 1: Cube the base
    1

    Cube the base

Cut the soap base into 1 in cubes. Small cubes melt evenly and fast.

  2. Step 2: Melt in short bursts
    2

    Melt in short bursts

Microwave the cubes in 30 second bursts, stirring between each one. Stop as soon as the last lumps disappear. Overheated base turns rubbery.

  3. Step 3: Stir in scent and color

    Stir in scent and color

Add the fragrance and a pinch of mica. Stir gently so you don't whip in bubbles.

  4. Step 4: Pour into the mold

    Pour into the mold

Fill each cavity to the top in one steady pour.

  5. Step 5: Pop the bubbles
    5

    Pop the bubbles

Spritz the tops with rubbing alcohol right away. Watch the bubbles vanish.

  6. Step 6: Let them set
    6

    Let them set

Leave the mold on the counter for 2 hours until the bars feel firm and cool.

  7. Step 7: Unmold and wrap

    Unmold and wrap

Push each bar out from the bottom. Wrap it tight in plastic wrap the same day. Glycerin soap pulls moisture from the air and gets sweaty if left bare.

Edie's tip

Check the fragrance supplier's max use rate for soap. Going over it can irritate skin.
