How to make it

Safety

Oil makes shower floors slick, so add a 'careful, slippery floor' note to the label.

  1. Step 1: Soften the oil

    Soften the oil

    Let the coconut oil sit at room temperature until it's soft like butter. Don't melt it fully.

  2. Step 2: Mix it up

    Mix it up

    Stir the sugar and oil together with a fork until it looks like wet sand.

  3. Step 3: Add the extras

    Add the extras

    Stir in vitamin E and fragrance. Smell it and stop when you like it.

  4. Step 4: Pack the jars

    Pack the jars

    Spoon it into clean, dry jars and press it down.

  5. Step 5: Label them

    Label them

    Write the ingredients and 'use within 3 months' on each label. Tie on a small wooden spoon.

Edie's tip

Tell them to scoop it with a dry spoon. Water from wet fingers is what makes homemade scrub spoil.
