How to make it

Safety

Melted wax can burn skin, so only a grown-up handles the hot mold.

  1. Step 1: Peel the crayons
    1

    Peel the crayons

Soak them in warm water for 10 minutes and the papers slide right off.

  2. Step 2: Break them up
    2

    Break them up

Snap them into pieces about 1/2 in long.

  3. Step 3: Fill the mold
    3

    Fill the mold

Fill each heart to the top. Mix colors that look good together, like reds and pinks, or blues and greens.

  4. Step 4: Melt them

    Melt them

Grown-up step: set the mold on a baking sheet and bake at 230°F for 15 to 20 minutes, until fully melted. Wax is hot, so the grown-up moves it.

  5. Step 5: Cool them
    5

    Cool them

Let the mold sit on the counter for 30 minutes, or 10 in the freezer once it's no longer hot.

  6. Step 6: Pop them out
    6

    Pop them out

Push from the bottom of the mold. Bag them up with a note that says "You color my world."

Edie's tip

Keep this mold for crafts only. Wax leaves a film you don't want in food.
