    Pour the honey

Pour about 1/4 cup of honey into the bottom. Try not to touch the sides.

  2. Step 2: Add corn syrup
    2

    Add corn syrup

Pour the same amount of corn syrup slowly over the back of a spoon.

  3. Step 3: Add dish soap

Pour in the dish soap the same slow way.

  4. Step 4: Add colored water

Pour the colored water down the side of the jar. Go very slowly.

  5. Step 5: Top with oil
    5

    Top with oil

Pour the oil last. It floats right on top.

  6. Step 6: Drop things in
    6

    Drop things in

Drop in a grape, a cherry tomato and a plastic bead. Watch which layer each one stops in.

  7. Step 7: Talk about why
    7

    Talk about why

Each liquid has a different density, how much stuff is packed into the same space. Heavier ones sink and lighter ones float. Honey is the heaviest here and oil is the lightest.

Edie's tip
