How to make it

Safety

Freshly heated slime can burn, so a grown-up does all microwave steps, and toss it after 1 day since it can grow mold.

  1. Step 1: Mix it up

    Mix it up

Whisk the psyllium, water and a drop of color in a big bowl with a fork.

  2. Step 2: Heat it

    Heat it

Grown-up step: microwave for 1 minute, stir, then 1 more minute. Watch it so it doesn't bubble over.

  3. Step 3: Thicken it

    Thicken it

Grown-up step: heat in 30-second bursts until it looks like thick jelly. It's very hot, so use oven mitts.

  4. Step 4: Cool it

    Cool it

Grown-up step: scrape it onto a plate and let it cool for at least 15 minutes. Touch-test it before handing it over.

  5. Step 5: Stretch it

    Stretch it

Pull, stretch and squish it. It feels cool and gooey.

Edie's tip

Microwave longer for firmer slime. Less time makes it runny.
