How to make it

Safety

Keep loose buttons away from small children and anyone who may put them in their mouth.

  1. Step 1: Paint the background
    1

    Paint the background

Brush a soft color like cream or pale gray over the canvas. Let it dry 20 minutes.

  2. Step 2: Draw the heart
    2

    Draw the heart

Lightly sketch a big heart in pencil. Fold a sheet of paper in half and cut a template if you like.

  3. Step 3: Sort the buttons
    3

    Sort the buttons

Pour the buttons into the muffin tin by color and size. This part is calm and satisfying on its own.

  4. Step 4: Outline with big buttons
    4

    Outline with big buttons

Dot glue along the pencil line. Press larger buttons onto it, edge to edge.

  5. Step 5: Fill the middle
    5

    Fill the middle

Work inward with medium buttons. Tuck small ones into the gaps.

  6. Step 6: Let it set
    6

    Let it set

Leave the canvas flat overnight. Tacky glue goes clear when it's dry.

Edie's tip

Lift buttons with a pencil that has a bit of sticky putty on the eraser. It's much easier than pinching small buttons with sore fingers.
