How to make it

  1. Step 1: Pick a simple kit
    1

    Pick a simple kit

Look for kits labeled for beginners, with few colors and big shapes. Avoid tiny spaces you need a microscope for.

  2. Step 2: Set up the light
    2

    Set up the light

Put a bright lamp on your painting hand side so your hand doesn't shade the canvas.

  3. Step 3: Fatten the brush

    Fatten the brush

Slide foam tubing over the brush handle. It's easier to hold, and your hand tires slower.

  4. Step 4: Paint one number at a time

Paint one number at a time

Open one pot and fill every space with that number. Close it before opening the next.

  5. Step 5: Go dark to light

    Go dark to light

Start with the darkest colors. Lighter paint covers small mistakes better.

  6. Step 6: Stop while it's fun

    Stop while it's fun

Paint 30 to 45 minutes, then rest. The canvas waits for you.

  7. Step 7: Add a second coat

    Add a second coat

If the printed numbers show through, dab on one more thin coat when it's dry.

Edie's tip

Photocopy the numbered guide at 150% so the numbers are big enough to read. Keep it next to the canvas.
