How to make it

  1. Step 1: Trace the hearts
    1

    Trace the hearts

Trace hearts about the size of your palm onto the cardstock. Aim for 20 or so.

  2. Step 2: Cut them out
    2

    Cut them out

Cut around each heart. Wobbly edges look handmade in the nicest way.

  3. Step 3: Fold each in half
    3

    Fold each in half

Crease every heart down the middle so it opens like a little book.

  4. Step 4: Glue onto the string
    4

    Glue onto the string

Lay the string inside the fold. Run the glue stick down one inside half and press closed.

  5. Step 5: Space them out
    5

    Space them out

Leave about 3 in between hearts. Mix the colors as you go.

  6. Step 6: Hang it up
    6

    Hang it up

Tie loops at both ends and hang it across a window or along a mantel.

Edie's tip

In a group, split the jobs. Some people trace, some cut, some glue. Everyone adds to the same garland, and nobody has to do the hard part.
