How to make it

  1. Step 1: Print the photo
    1

    Print the photo

Print the photo the same size as the block on a laser printer. Inkjet prints won't transfer.

  2. Step 2: Coat the wood
    2

    Coat the wood

Brush a thick, even layer of transfer medium on the wood.

  3. Step 3: Lay the photo down
    3

    Lay the photo down

Set the photo face down on the wet medium.

  4. Step 4: Smooth it out
    4

    Smooth it out

Press out bubbles with an old credit card, working from the center out.

  5. Step 5: Wait overnight
    5

    Wait overnight

Leave it at least 12 hours. Don't peek.

  6. Step 6: Rub off the paper
    6

    Rub off the paper

Wet the paper with a sponge and rub gently with your fingers. The paper rolls off and the photo stays.

  7. Step 7: Seal it
    7

    Seal it

Once dry, brush on clear sealer. Sand the edges for a worn look.

Edie's tip

Rubbing off the paper is slow. Do it in 2 or 3 short sessions so your fingers don't get sore.
