How to make it

Safety

Hot wax can burn badly and catch fire. Never leave it alone or heat it directly on a burner, and keep a lid nearby to smother flames.

  1. Step 1: Set the wicks
    1

    Set the wicks

Stick each wick to the center of a jar bottom. Hold it straight with a centering bar.

  2. Step 2: Melt the wax
    2

    Melt the wax

Melt the wax in the pitcher over simmering water, stirring, until it reaches about 185 F.

  3. Step 3: Add the scent
    3

    Add the scent

Take it off the heat. Stir in the fragrance slowly for 2 minutes.

  4. Step 4: Cool a little
    4

    Cool a little

Wait until it drops to about 135 F. This gives smoother tops.

  5. Step 5: Pour the candles
    5

    Pour the candles

Pour slowly into each jar, leaving half an inch at the top.

  6. Step 6: Let it cure
    6

    Let it cure

Leave the jars still for 24 hours. Trim the wicks to a quarter inch.

  7. Step 7: Label and wait
    7

    Label and wait

Add labels. Let them cure 2 more days before burning for the best scent.

Edie's tip

Pour with the pitcher resting on the jar rim and tilt it slowly. You won't need to hold the full weight up in the air.
