How to make it

  1. Step 1: Lay the tape
    1

    Lay the tape

Stick strips of tape across the canvas in straight lines, crossing or in a grid.

  2. Step 2: Press the edges
    2

    Press the edges

Rub along each strip with a fingernail or spoon so paint can't creep under.

  3. Step 3: Fill the spaces
    3

    Fill the spaces

Paint each section between the tape a different color. Painting over the tape is fine.

  4. Step 4: Let it dry
    4

    Let it dry

Wait about 30 minutes until the paint is dry to the touch.

  5. Step 5: Peel the tape
    5

    Peel the tape

Pull each strip off slowly at an angle. Crisp white lines appear.

Edie's tip

Fold over the end of each tape strip before you stick it down. You'll have a tab to grab, which saves picking at it with sore fingers.
