How to make it
Clamp the wood before sawing, and keep your free hand behind the saw's path.
1Clamp the branch
Clamp it to a sturdy table edge so it can't roll.
2Cut the slices
Saw slices 1/2 in thick with slow, full strokes. Let the saw do the work.
3Dry them flat
Lay them on newspaper indoors for 2 weeks. Slow drying means fewer cracks.
4Sand the faces
Sand both sides with 80 grit, then 220. Rub until it feels smooth on your cheek.
5Seal them
Brush 3 thin coats of polyurethane, 2 hours apart.
6Add pads
Stick a felt pad under each one.
Leave the bark on. Peeling it is a lot of work and the bark is the charm.
