How to make it

Safety

Finish the wood in fresh air and let it cure a full day before using it.

  1. Step 1: Sand the board
    1

    Sand the board

Sand with 120 grit, then 220. Round the corners a little so they don't bite your wrists.

  2. Step 2: Finish the wood
    2

    Finish the wood

Wipe on stain or brush on paint. Let it dry for the time on the can.

  3. Step 3: Seal it
    3

    Seal it

Brush on 2 thin coats of clear finish. Sand lightly with 220 between coats.

  4. Step 4: Mark the plates
    4

    Mark the plates

Flip the board. Mark a spot 1 in in from each corner.

  5. Step 5: Screw on the plates
    5

    Screw on the plates

Center each plate on your mark. Drive the small screws in with a screwdriver.

  6. Step 6: Twist on the legs
    6

    Twist on the legs

Screw each leg into its plate. Flip it over and check that it doesn't rock.

Edie's tip

Ask the store to cut the board to length. Most home centers do it free.
