How to make it

Safety

Use spray adhesive outside with a mask, and get a grown-up to help lift the board.

  1. Step 1: Size the board
    1

    Size the board

Measure your bed's width. Have the store cut the plywood to that width and 30 in tall.

  2. Step 2: Trim the foam
    2

    Trim the foam

Lay foam on the board and cut it to match with a bread knife.

  3. Step 3: Glue the foam
    3

    Glue the foam

Spray adhesive on the board outdoors. Press the foam down and let it set 10 minutes.

  4. Step 4: Wrap the batting
    4

    Wrap the batting

Lay batting on the floor, foam side down on top. Staple it to the back, middle of each side first.

  5. Step 5: Wrap the fabric
    5

    Wrap the fabric

Repeat with the fabric face down. Pull snug and staple every 2 in, working out from the middles.

  6. Step 6: Fold the corners
    6

    Fold the corners

Pleat each corner like a present. Trim extra fabric and staple it flat.

  7. Step 7: Stand it up
    7

    Stand it up

Slide it behind the mattress. The bed's weight holds it against the wall.

Edie's tip

Velvet hides staple wobbles better than cotton and looks expensive.
