How to make it

  1. Step 1: Wrap the cardboard
    1

    Wrap the cardboard

Wind yarn around the cardboard about 40 times. More wraps make a fluffier tassel.

  2. Step 2: Tie the top
    2

    Tie the top

Slide a 10 in piece of yarn under the wraps at the top. Knot it tight.

  3. Step 3: Cut the bottom
    3

    Cut the bottom

Snip through all the loops at the bottom edge. Slide the bundle off.

  4. Step 4: Wrap the neck
    4

    Wrap the neck

Wind a new piece of yarn around the bundle about 1 in from the top. Knot it and tuck the tail inside.

  5. Step 5: Trim it even
    5

    Trim it even

Pinch the tassel flat and trim the ends straight. Make 12 to 15 in total.

  6. Step 6: String the garland
    6

    String the garland

Tie each tassel's top loop onto the twine, about 4 in apart.

Edie's tip

Comb each tassel with your fingers before trimming. It hides any kinks.
