How to make it

Safety

Raw salt dough is very salty and can make a toddler sick if eaten, so keep the dough out of reach while you work. The oven step is grown-up only.

  1. Step 1: Mix the dough

    Mix the dough

Stir the flour and salt. Add the water bit by bit and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.

  2. Step 2: Roll it out

    Roll it out

Roll it about 1/2 inch thick on parchment. Thicker holds a deeper print.

  3. Step 3: Press the hand

    Press the hand

Hold your toddler's hand flat and press each finger down firmly. Lift straight up.

  4. Step 4: Trim around it

Thread the ribbon through and tie it. Write the year on the back with marker.

Edie's tip

Make 2 or 3 at once. Grandparents always want 1.
