How to make it

Safety

Use only flavor oils labeled lip safe, and skip cinnamon and peppermint oils that can irritate lips.

  1. Step 1: Weigh everything
    1

    Weigh everything

Weigh the beeswax, shea and coconut oil. Equal weights give a balm that's firm but glides.

  2. Step 2: Melt it gently
    2

    Melt it gently

Melt everything in the double boiler, stirring now and then. Beeswax melts last.

  3. Step 3: Add flavor
    3

    Add flavor

Take it off the heat and stir in a few drops of flavor oil.

  4. Step 4: Fill the tubes
    4

    Fill the tubes

Stand the tubes upright and fill them with the pipette. Work fast before it sets.

  5. Step 5: Let them cool

    Let them cool

Wait 30 minutes until fully set. A small dip on top is normal.

  6. Step 6: Cap and label

    Cap and label

Cap each tube and add a label. Keep one in every jacket pocket.

Edie's tip

Top off any sunken centers with a second tiny pour once the first has set.
