How to make it

  1. Step 1: Sand the board
    1

    Sand the board

Sand with 120, then 180 grit. Round the corners slightly.

  2. Step 2: Stain it
    2

    Stain it

Wipe on stain, wait 5 minutes and wipe off the extra. Let it dry 4 hours.

  3. Step 3: Mark the hooks
    3

    Mark the hooks

Mark 4 hook spots across the middle: 3 1/2 in from each end and 3 in apart.

  4. Step 4: Drill starter holes
    4

    Drill starter holes

Drill tiny starter holes for each hook screw. This keeps the board from splitting.

  5. Step 5: Screw on the hooks
    5

    Screw on the hooks

Attach each hook so they all point the same way.

  6. Step 6: Hang it
    6

    Hang it

Hold it level and screw through the board into a stud, or into rated anchors. Hang your keys. Done.

Edie's tip

Glue a small strip of 1x2 along the top to make a ledge for sunglasses and mail.
