How to make it

Safety

Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and a dust mask while cutting and sanding plywood, and clamp the panel before using the jigsaw.

  1. Step 1: Cut the frame pieces
    1

    Cut the frame pieces

Cut 4 long sides at 45 in, 4 ends at 24 in and 4 legs at 11 1/2 in. Lay out the cuts so each 2x4 has a little waste at the end.

  2. Step 2: Build 2 frames
    2

    Build 2 frames

Stand the 2x4s on edge. Put the 24 in ends across the ends of the 45 in sides to make a 24 x 48 in rectangle. Glue and drive two 2 1/2 in screws at each corner.

  3. Step 3: Cut the holes
    3

    Cut the holes

On each panel, mark the hole center 9 in down from the top and 12 in from each side. Draw a 6 in circle, drill a 1/2 in starter hole inside it and cut it out with the jigsaw.

  4. Step 4: Attach the tops
    4

    Attach the tops

Glue the frame edges and lay the top on. Drive 1 1/4 in countersunk screws every 6 in around the edge.

  5. Step 5: Hang the legs
    5

    Hang the legs

Round one end of each leg by tracing a can. Clamp a leg inside the frame at the hole end. Drill a 3/8 in hole through frame and leg, 1 3/4 in from the end. Bolt it so it folds.

  6. Step 6: Set the height
    6

    Set the height

Fold the legs down. Trim the bottoms until the back edge of the top sits 12 in off the ground.

  7. Step 7: Paint and seal
    7

    Paint and seal

Sand, prime and paint your design. Finish with 3 thin coats of satin polyurethane so bags slide right. Let it cure 3 days.

  8. Step 8: Set up and play
    8

    Set up and play

Place the boards 27 ft apart, front edge to front edge. Hand someone the bags and settle who's buying dinner.

Edie's tip

Sand lightly with 320 grit between poly coats. It gets you that smooth tournament slide.
