How to make it

  1. Step 1: Hunt for leaves
    1

    Hunt for leaves

Take a walk and collect leaves that are still soft and flat. Crunchy ones crumble.

  2. Step 2: Lay leaves bumpy side up
    2

    Lay leaves bumpy side up

Put the leaves on the table with the veiny side facing up. That side makes the best prints.

  3. Step 3: Cover with paper

    Cover with paper

Lay the paper on top and tape the corners to the table so it can't slide.

  4. Step 4: Rub with the side of a crayon

Rub with the side of a crayon

Hold the crayon flat on its side and rub back and forth. The leaf shape will pop up under the color.

  5. Step 5: Switch colors

    Switch colors

Try a new crayon for each leaf. Overlapping colors look like a real fall forest floor.

Edie's tip

Peel crayons and snap them in half first. Short flat crayons work far better than pointy tips.
