How to make it

Safety

Oven steps are for staff or a helper, and check diets and allergies before anyone tastes.

  1. Step 1: Start the bag
    1

    Start the bag

Put 1 cup flour, the yeast, sugar and warm water in the bag. Seal it, pushing out the air.

  2. Step 2: Squish it
    2

    Squish it

Squeeze and mash the bag for 1 minute. Let it sit 10 minutes until bubbly.

  3. Step 3: Add the rest

    Add the rest

Add the oil, salt and another cup of flour. Seal and squish again.

  4. Step 4: Finish the dough
    4

    Finish the dough

Add the last cup of flour and mash until it forms a ball. It's tiring, so pass the bag around.

  5. Step 5: Shape the loaf
    5

    Shape the loaf

Tip the dough onto a floured board, roll it into a log and set it in a loaf pan.

  6. Step 6: Let it rise
    6

    Let it rise

Cover with a towel and leave it in a warm spot for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy.

    Bake it

Bake at 375 F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped. Staff or a helper handles the oven.

Edie's tip

The smell of bread baking is half the activity. Bake where people can stay close by.
