How to make it

Safety

Check for food allergies before sprinkles come out, and skip hard candies for little ones.

  1. Step 1: Mix the icing
    1

    Mix the icing

Stir the powdered sugar and milk until it's thick but spreadable.

  2. Step 2: Color it
    2

    Color it

Split the icing into bowls and add a drop or two of color to each.

  3. Step 3: Set the table
    3

    Set the table

Put a cookie, a butter knife and a small bowl of sprinkles at each seat.

  4. Step 4: Spread the icing
    4

    Spread the icing

Spread a thin layer on each cookie with the knife.

  5. Step 5: Add sprinkles
    5

    Add sprinkles

Shake on sprinkles or press in candies before the icing sets.

  6. Step 6: Let them set
    6

    Let them set

Lay them on wax paper for 1 hour so the icing firms up, if anyone can wait.

Edie's tip

Pick a cookie you can hold flat in your palm. Spreading on a big, firm cookie is easier than piping fine lines.
