How to make it

Safety

Rice and pom-poms are choking hazards, so keep this one away from babies, toddlers and anyone who tends to put things in their mouth.

  1. Step 1: Cut the sock
    1

    Cut the sock

Lay the sock flat. Cut it straight across right above the heel. Keep the tube part with the toe.

  2. Step 2: Fill with rice
    2

    Fill with rice

Stand the sock toe-down in a mug. Pour in rice through a funnel until it's about two-thirds full.

  3. Step 3: Close the bottom
    3

    Close the bottom

Twist the sock above the rice and wrap a rubber band around it tightly. This is the body and head.

  4. Step 4: Make the head
    4

    Make the head

Squeeze about a third of the rice up toward the band. Wrap a second band below it to form a round head.

  5. Step 5: Shape the ears
    5

    Shape the ears

Cut the empty sock top above the first band down the middle. Trim each half into a long ear shape.

  6. Step 6: Tie the bow
    6

    Tie the bow

Tie the ribbon over the neck band to hide it. Glue the pom-pom on the back for a tail.

Edie's tip

If twisting the rubber bands is hard on your hands, use the stretchy coil hair ties instead. They slide on with almost no grip needed.
