How to make it

Safety

Burn them in a sturdy holder on a heat-safe surface and never leave a lit candle alone.

  1. Step 1: Warm the sheet
    1

    Warm the sheet

Wave a hair dryer over the sheet for a few seconds if it feels stiff. Warm wax bends without cracking.

  2. Step 2: Cut the wick
    2

    Cut the wick

Cut a wick 1 in longer than the sheet's short side.

  3. Step 3: Press in the wick
    3

    Press in the wick

Lay the wick along the short edge. Fold the wax over it and press firmly so it grips.

  4. Step 4: Roll it tight
    4

    Roll it tight

Roll slowly and evenly, keeping the bottom edge lined up. Tight rolling makes a candle that burns longer.

  5. Step 5: Seal the seam
    5

    Seal the seam

Press the last edge into the candle with a warm finger until it disappears.

  6. Step 6: Trim the wick
    6

    Trim the wick

Trim the wick to 1/4 in. Stand it in a holder and admire that honeycomb pattern.

Edie's tip

Cut a sheet on the diagonal before rolling to get a spiral taper with a pointed top.
