How to make it

  1. Step 1: Tape the edges
    1

    Tape the edges

Tape each card to the table with a 1/4 in border. You'll get a clean white frame when you peel it.

  2. Step 2: Wet your paints
    2

    Wet your paints

Drop a little water on each pan you plan to use. Let it sit 2 minutes so the color loosens.

  3. Step 3: Paint a stem
    3

    Paint a stem

Drag the tip of the size 4 brush in one curved line. Don't fix it. Wobbly looks natural.

  4. Step 4: Press on leaves
    4

    Press on leaves

Load the size 8 brush, touch the tip down and press the belly flat as you pull away. That's a leaf.

  5. Step 5: Layer a second green
    5

    Layer a second green

Once the first leaves are dry, add a few in a darker green. Overlap a couple.

  6. Step 6: Peel and sign
    6

    Peel and sign

Wait until it's fully dry, then peel the tape slowly at an angle. Write your message inside.

Edie's tip

Keep one water jar for rinsing and one clean jar for painting. Muddy water makes muddy leaves.
