How to make it

Safety

Keep paint at least 3/4 in below the rim and off the inside, and follow the paint label's baking steps exactly.

  1. Step 1: Clean the glass
    1

    Clean the glass

Wipe the outside with rubbing alcohol. Don't touch the painting area after.

  2. Step 2: Tape the safe zone
    2

    Tape the safe zone

Run tape around each glass 3/4 in below the rim. Keep paint below it and off the inside.

  3. Step 3: Paint the design
    3

    Paint the design

Paint dots, initials or simple flowers. Thin layers bake more evenly.

  4. Step 4: Air dry
    4

    Air dry

Let them dry for the time on the paint label, often 1 hour or more.

  5. Step 5: Bake them
    5

    Bake them

Set the glasses in a cold oven, then heat to the temperature on the paint, often 350 F. Bake for the time listed.

  6. Step 6: Cool in the oven
    6

    Cool in the oven

Turn the oven off and let the glasses cool inside. Sudden temperature changes can crack glass.

  7. Step 7: Cure before washing

    Cure before washing

Wait 3 days before the first wash. Top rack only.

Edie's tip

Practice your design on a drinking glass from the cupboard first. Paint wipes off with alcohol before baking.
